Advancing Human Performance through Muscle and Metabolic Research
The Metabolism, Nutrition, and Exercise Research (MiNER) Lab at The University of Texas at El Paso, led by Dr. Sudip Bajpeyi, PhD FACSM, is dedicated to advancing our understanding of how physical activity, metabolism, and molecular biology intersect to influence human health. Our research focuses on identifying the biological mechanisms that regulate insulin sensitivity, energy balance, and metabolic function across health and disease.
We use a translational approach—spanning cellular and molecular techniques, human clinical studies, and exercise interventions—to investigate a wide range of chronic metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and age-related metabolic decline. By bridging basic science with real-world applications, our goal is to inform evidence-based strategies for preventing and treating these conditions across diverse populations.
The lab collaborates with institutions nationwide and is funded by leading organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We aim to generate transformative insights that drive innovative therapies, shape public health strategies, and ultimately reduce the global burden of metabolic disease.
